In the "Monthly Rent Includes" field, what is the difference between Scavenger and Trash Collection?

In short:
They both refer to garbage removal, but scavenger usually means a private service, while trash collection could be public or private.

  • Scavenger typically refers to garbage and recycling pickup done by a private waste company (not the city). This term is more commonly used in cities like Chicago. If a rental includes "scavenger," it means the landlord is covering the cost of trash and recycling removal.
  • Trash Collection is a more general term and usually refers to standard garbage pickup, which could be provided by the city or a private service. If this is included in the rent, you’re not expected to pay separately for regular garbage removal.
