Understanding the differences between VOW and IDX can help your seller decide how their listings should be shared.
What is VOW?
Virtual Office Website (VOW) is a password-protected website designed to provide registered consumers with listing information. Unlike IDX websites, visitors must create an account and log in before viewing listings. Both private and standard listings can display on VOW sites.
What is IDX?
Internet Data Exchange (IDX) is a website that displays listing information to the public. Listings are available to anyone visiting the site and the site typically include listing details, photos, and property information to help consumers search for homes. Only standard listings can display on IDX sites.
How are listings distributed to VOW and IDX sites?
MRED distributes listing information through MLS Grid, which helps ensure participating websites comply with MLS Rules governing both IDX and VOW displays. Websites receiving listing data through MLS Grid are required to follow these rules before displaying listing information.
Where can I choose my seller's preferences for displaying their listing?
A list broker will choose their seller's distribution preferences by selecting the available listing display options during listing input.
